What is a taxi driver?
Taxi drivers are professionals who provide detailed, door-to-door transportation services in various settings, including everyday life, business, and tourism.
The demand for foreign-born drivers who can speak multiple languages to cater to international tourists visiting Japan has been steadily increasing.
You can choose from three different work options.
- Work two days’ worth of shifts in one day (11-13 rides per month) “alternate day.” style
- Daytime-only, half-day shifts (22-26 rides per month) “day shift.” style
- Nighttime-only, half-day shifts (22-26 rides per month) “night shift.” style
It employs a job-based employment format that is different from a typical Japanese company.
- Salaries are determined by performance, not tenure.
- Wages are based on the job requirements.
- Monthly salary = base salary + various allowances + performance-based commission
（Taxes, insurance premiums, and other deductions are taken from the monthly salary.）
- A salary guarantee program is available.
- With the increase in inbound tourism to Japan, being able to speak English is a significant advantage!
The national average annual income for taxi drivers is 4.19 million yen.

Tokyo can earn even more, 5.86 million yen.
- Japanese male in his 40s, 10 years of service, with a monthly salary of approximately 450,000 yen.
- *Net pay after taxes and insurance premiums is approximately 350,000 yen.
- Dutch male in his 50s, with 1 year of service, a monthly salary of approximately 430,000 yen.

The type of person we are looking for.
We are looking for drivers who can convey the unique charm of Japan from an outsider’s perspective, as only a foreigner living in Japan can, to both Japanese and international customers.
Work schedules and monthly models for alternate-day drivers.
“Alternate-day work” is a schedule where you complete two days’ worth of tasks in one shift.
Here is an example of a typical day’s schedule for a crew member and a model for a month.

For example, if you start work at 7:30 AM, your basic working hours (rides) are from 8:00 AM to 2:00 AM the next day. Your work ends at 2:30 AM the next day. You are required to take a total of 3 hours of breaks during work, at any time of your choosing.
“Alternate-day work” 1-month model
11-13 rides per month
For example, out of 2 days (48 hours), the maximum attendance (restricted time) is 21 hours. You have 27 hours for your own time, including rest (a rest day after work). After getting enough sleep to prepare for the next workday, you have plenty of free time.
Monthly salaries average between 300,000 and 400,000 yen.
The salary is a fixed salary plus commission, so monthly sales are reflected in the salary.

If you add a rest day after work and three days off, you can get two four-day weekends every month!
After work, you can enjoy a free lifestyle to the full, with plenty of time to rest and enjoy your private life.

If you arrive at work at 7:30am, your basic shift (rides) is from 8:00am to 16:00pm. Leaving work is at 16:30. The break during the workday is 1 hour.
“Day shift” 1-month model
22-26 days’ ride per month!
For example, a daytime-only shift would involve working 22-26 days per month.
Average monthly salary is 250,000-350,000 yen.
The salary is a fixed salary plus commission, so monthly sales are reflected in the salary.

If you add a rest day after work and three days off, you can get two four-day weekends every month!
You can discuss the times you would like to work during the day. For example, if you start work at 11:00, you will finish before 8:00 pm. Basically, you have two days off a week, but you can also get three consecutive holidays depending on the combination. This is a popular way of working for women, who can earn a steady income while working regularly and getting plenty of rest.

Night shift driver working patterns and 1-month model
“Night shifts” are half-day shifts (22-26 per month), working only at night.
Here is an example of a typical day’s schedule for a crew member and a model for a month.

Earn substantial income during late night hours when there are few rivals!
For example, if you start work at 20:30 pm, your basic shift (rides) is from 21:00 pm to 5:00 am. You leave work at 5:30 the following day. The break during the workday is one hour.
Working an 8-hour shift with a 1-hour break during the night is a popular choice among drivers who want to make money efficiently by working in less competitive late-night hours. This work style is recommended for those who want to earn a higher income by working during the night!
“Night shift” 1-month model.
22-26 days’ ride per month!
For example, if you work only in the evenings, you will work 22-26 days per month.
Average monthly salary: ¥350,000 – ¥500,000.
The salary is a fixed salary plus commission, so monthly sales are reflected in the salary.

Surcharge & long-distance use to make good money.
You can discuss and choose the night shift start time that works best for you. The crew will be on duty for 8 hours plus 1 hour break. For example, if you arrive at work at 21:00, you will finish work before 6:00 in the morning. Basically, you get two days off a week, but you can also get three consecutive holidays depending on the combination. As well as earning well through premium rates and long-distance use, it is also a rewarding time to work, with many customers trusting us because of the high number of bookings.
■Night shift (22-26 rides per month).
Basic / 17:30 – 2:30 the following day (1 hour break)
Variable e.g. 21:00 – 6:00 the following day (1 hour break)

It has been more than 35 years since the education for new crew members conducted at the Education Centre was approved by the Governor of Tokyo in 1986.
The program has been implemented for a cumulative total of more than 40,000 people, making use of the wealth of know-how developed over many years of operation.

Terms and conditions of application
○At least one year after obtaining a driver’s license.
○JLPT N2 equivalent or above.

・”Permanent resident” – a person who has obtained a permanent residence permit from another status based on the permit criteria.
・”Spouse or Child of Japanese National” … Spouse of a Japanese national and second generation (father or mother is Japanese)

・”Long-Term Resident” … Third-generation and fourth-generation descendants, non-Japanese spouses of Japanese descendants, and spouses or children of Chinese war-displaced persons.
Handling of Personal Information
Tokyo Musen Cooperative Association (hereinafter referred to as “the Cooperative”) handles personal information provided by applicants for employment (hereinafter referred to as “personal information”) appropriately and strictly as follows.

The personal data entered will be provided to the union members (taxi companies) for tasks related to recruitment activities.
The provision of this information is voluntary. However, if the applicant’s name, current address and telephone number, which are necessary for the recruitment selection process, are not provided, or if the information provided is incomplete, the association may not be able to carry out subsequent recruitment activities.
The Union may outsource the handling of personal information in order to achieve the purpose for which it is used, but will ensure that the outsourced party complies with the Personal Data Protection Act and that the outsourced party is thoroughly managed. The Union will conclude a memorandum of understanding on personal information with such subcontractors and supervise them as necessary and appropriate.
